AI and brand3 min read

AI makes content faster. Here is how to keep it on brand.

Generating more work is no longer the hard part. Making sure every piece still sounds and looks like you is.

A soft gradient moving from pale white into warm orange

A year ago, the question most marketing teams asked about AI was whether it could produce anything usable. That question has been answered. A capable model can draft a campaign, write fifty product descriptions or produce a set of social images in the time it used to take to brief one. The bottleneck has moved.

The new problem is quieter and more expensive. When output becomes cheap, the cost shifts to checking it. Somebody has to read every caption, look at every image and decide whether it actually belongs to the brand. Most teams discover that their AI tools are fast at producing work and very bad at remembering who they are producing it for.

Why AI drifts off brand

A general-purpose model has read most of the internet, which means its default voice is the average of the internet. Unless it is told otherwise, every time, it will reach for the safest phrasing and the most familiar visual choices. That is the opposite of what a brand is for.

Teams try to fix this with prompts. Someone writes a long instruction describing the tone of voice, pastes in a few examples and saves it in a document. It works for a while. Then a second person writes their own version, a third tool gets added, and within a month there are six slightly different descriptions of the brand living in six different places. The model is not the weak point. The missing piece is a single, approved source of truth that every tool and every person works from.

What good governance looks like

Keeping AI output on brand is not about slowing it down. It is about moving the brand knowledge to the start of the process instead of the end. In practice that means four things.

  • One approved foundation. Positioning, tone of voice, visual principles, restrictions and approved examples live in one place, maintained by the people who own the brand.
  • Context at the moment of creation. Whoever is creating, a person or an agent, gets the relevant standards before they start, not a correction after they finish.
  • Evaluation before approval. Work is checked against the standards and the reasons are explained, so reviewers judge the important things instead of hunting for small errors.
  • Human authority over the final call. Tools can flag and recommend. People decide what goes out under the brand's name.

The goal is not to make AI more creative. It is to make sure the creativity it adds still belongs to you.

A simple test for your team

Take one piece of AI-generated work that went out last month and ask three questions. Where did the instructions that shaped it come from? Who checked it against the brand, and what did they check it against? If the same brief were given to a different tool tomorrow, would the result be recognisably the same brand?

If the honest answers are a personal document, someone's memory and probably not, the problem is not your choice of model. It is that your brand has not yet been turned into something your tools can use.

That is the gap Branq is built to close. It holds your approved standards in one governed environment, gives every person and agent the same foundation, and evaluates work before it moves forward, so your team can use AI at full speed without the brand slowly drifting away from itself.
